We had another wet clothes emergency. But this time it was the washing machine. It’s spin cycle did not work and left the clothes wet. Whirlpool is a good brand but you need to maintain it. Our philosophy is if it is an easy job with a cost-effective part replacement, then we replace the part. If it is a big job with an expensive part, then we replace the unit.
Out team diagnosed the problem using the self test mode. We go found out the there was an F7E1 error code. According to the documentation, “This code indicates a motor speed sensing error, the motor can not achieve the correct speed for the cycle selection.” We checked that the tumbler was moving freely. So, we decided to check the shifter assembly. We measured the resistance between ports 5 and 6 on the shifter motor, and found that it was only 1.5k, while it should be between 2.0k and 3.5k. This explained why this problem was happening intermittently. We replaced the shifter assembly and ran the self test. Everything was back to normal. We were able to fix the problem with less than $35 in parts and half an hour of labor.
